A rollercoaster is supposed to be fun.
Ellie is not keeping her feedings down very well. She threw up last night and again this morning. The doctors are concerned with the possibility of necrotizing entercolitis aka NEC. The jist of this disease is that parts of the intestine die because of lack of blood flow.
She lost a bit of weight last night, she's at 2430 grams. (5.3 lbs).
Her direct bilirubin count is up a bit as well.
The big news though is that they couldn't find a gall bladder in the ultrasound that she had today. We think that her gall bladder is just shy, but we'll know more on Monday when they do another test. They'll inject her liver with a dye and watch where it goes.
The good news is that its not her heart that is the direct problem. If she was born without a gall bladder, then what can we do. I suspect however its simply because not enough blood is getting to the organ so it has a hard time doing its job. (btw, the gall bladder produces bile to help you digest, hence the issue with the feedings)
