Down Billi, Down
Chad's brother Jeff asked me last week how the baby was doing. I told him her billi was down again. Then he said that whenever he asks me about her, I tell him about a different baby. It took me a minute to figure out he was talking about "Billy." Well, bili is down to 3.7 today. WAHOO! This is definite progress. I just hope it keeps going down instead of creeping back up like it did the last time she was this low.
They decided in rounds today to not give her a bottle until tomorrow when Debbie from Physical Therapy can go work with her. Ellie has absolutely refused to PO feed and I think it's because she has made the connection that if she eats she throws up. So we're back to square one on teaching her to eat again.
I'm sitting home with a cold, and Chad is practically over his, but we decided to stay home anyway and not take the chance of sharing it with our girl. This totally stinks. I tried so hard not to catch it, and then I did anyway. She's so close to getting to come home that we don't want to jeporadize her health to hinder that possibility. I hope mine only lasts 2 days like Chad's did because it's awful not to get to go see Ellie.

Hi Chad and Teri. This is Joel, speaking for me and Lee and Joyce. We have visited here a few times, very late, and didn't leave a comment. They were very late visits, and we forgot, or were too tired to think of anything to say, sorry!! We all think you two have a beautiful baby girl, with a beautiful smile. She just keeps getting cuter and healthier since march. We all hope you can take her home soon. What is billi ?? Something medical we don't really want to know I'm sure. I'm sure there is a purpose in all this, as in everything else, but I don't know it at this time. We put your names on The Temple Prayer roll. See you again soon, Joel and Parents.
Bilirubin is a breakdown product of hemoglobin. Total and direct bilirubin are usually measured to screen for or to monitor liver or gall bladder dysfunction.
Thanks for your prayers!
We love your support. Hope to see you soon. :)
Thanks
Chad
Billiruben is the chemical that causes jaundice in babies. There are two different kinds. The first one is the indirect billiruben that goes away when you put the baby in sunlight. That's the most common one. The other is direct billiruben that is produced by the liver. Ellie's liver hasn't been functioning properly for a long time, and one of the ways they guage the progress of it healing is by looking at her billiruben levels. As the level goes down, her liver function improves.
