Jaundice
Sat 11:
All of our kids have been jaundice to a degree. With Alex it was touch and go on whether or not he'd be hospitalized. Ellie's bilirubin count went up from 10.1 yesterday to 12.3 this morning. This means that she was put on the "billi blanket" ( the nuclear blanket) and designated her own stadium lights.

Her acidosis has gone down which is very good. This means that her heart is able to pump the blood well enough to get rid of the CO2. They got it to go down by increasing her liquids. Presumably, this was able to flush out the CO2 and lower the blood PH.
Her nurse tonight did not win any awards. I came in and they were just putting her back in her bed from weighing her. She was trying to lay the baby back in her spot and for some reason the baby didn't want to go. Hmm... maybe it was because her ARM WAS BEING JERKED BEHIND HER?!?!?! Her arm had caught on the bed and she was trying to lay her on it. I saw this at once and pulled her arm out. I made some comment like "lets NOT break her arm".
To continue my annoyance with this nurse, then she's trying to get her situated and wants to turn her head ( They turn her head every 3 hrs. Nurse says its more comfortable. ) She starts lifting her head up and she's not able to get it set properly because of the PICC line in her neck, so she cranks her head up and down and all around with out supporting her neck at all. I got to the point that i had to walk away it was making me crazy to watch.
These ladies do an excellent job and I realize that I am the paranoid dad... but it doesn't make it any easier.
