Acidosis

Our doctor told us today (Friday the 10th) that metabolic acidosis is a big concern for Ellie, well for her doctors and nurses it is. The way that its been explained to me is that if the baby is given too much O2 and her heart isn't able to pump well enough to get rid of the CO2 from the blood it will lower the pH of her blood. But I could be WAY off.

To manage this currently they have increased her fluids and she's the better for it. It has made her more pink. They may have to give her drugs like blood thinners for it if that fails.

This is one of the reasons for the arterial line in her foot. They are able to take arterial blood gas measurements. But more importantly, it gives me a reason to show off her chicken legs.
